What is Duskwyn.dev?

Duskwyn (“Duskwyn for Canvas LMS”) is an independent, third-party productivity and interface customization tool designed to work with Canvas LMS. It runs entirely in your own browser, as a layer on top of the Canvas pages you already use.

What it is

It’s a study platform made of independent modules: the Hub dashboard, 545 themes, a planner with live countdowns, Study Quest, AI Study, a Finance Hub, a Grade Simulator, an arcade and page upgrades. Each module can be switched on or off. It’s for studying and planning, and it changes how Canvas looks and feels, not what Canvas does.

Why it exists

A course dashboard should answer “what’s due, what’s next, how am I doing?” at a glance, and feel like your own space while it does. Duskwyn puts deadlines first, makes planning and focus feel rewarding, and lets every student style the place they spend hours in, without sending their data anywhere.

How it works

A layer, not a replacement

  1. It reads, never writes

The only LMS request function accepts nothing but read-only GET requests to the site’s own /api/v1/, using your existing login. It never submits, edits, posts, deletes or clicks anything.

  2. It builds a local snapshot

Courses, deadlines and grades are cached on your device, so the Hub paints instantly and then refreshes quietly.

  3. It restyles with theme tokens

Every color, radius, font and shadow flows from one set of CSS variables, so a single theme re-skins Canvas and every Duskwyn panel together.

  4. It keeps modules isolated

Each module boots on its own. One failing module is reported in Settings → Doctor while the rest keep working, and repeated errors pause the whole layer and restore native Canvas.

  5. It draws its own art

GIF backgrounds are generated frame by frame in your browser and cached locally. Theme backgrounds are CSS gradients and tiny inline patterns, so nothing is downloaded.

  6. It steps aside when needed

Classic view shows the untouched dashboard, Alt+Shift+D turns everything off, and ?duskwyn=off disables it for one tab.

Privacy & safety

No server. No telemetry. Your data stays local.

Browser storage isn’t a vault. Malware, a shared or compromised device, or other software with access to your browser profile may be able to read local data, including any saved API keys.

What actually leaves the browser

Every request outside the LMS must go over HTTPS to a host on a fixed allow-list, or it’s refused. With default settings, Duskwyn only talks to the LMS.

  • LMS (always)Read-only GET requests to the site’s own /api/v1/, with your existing login. Pagination never follows another site.
  • Finance (off by default)When it’s on, and only while a finance panel is visible: ticker symbols and search terms go to Yahoo Finance (and to Finnhub or Alpha Vantage if you add their keys). Macro and crypto widgets call U.S. Treasury, BLS, CoinGecko, alternative.me, publicnode.com and mempool.space. Every request is anonymous, with no cookies.
  • AI Study (off by default)Only with your own key, and only when you press a Study AI button or Send. What you typed, your material box or attached file, the subject, recent chat and (if enabled) AI memory go to the provider you chose: Anthropic, OpenAI or Google. Nothing from the LMS is attached automatically, and a notice lists exactly what will be sent before the first request.
  • Remote GIFs (opt-in)A GIF you link by address is fetched once, without cookies, only from Giphy, Tenor, i.imgur.com or upload.wikimedia.org, then cached. Files you pick never leave the device.
  • Web fonts (off by default)If you turn them on, the stylesheet loads from fonts.googleapis.com with no referrer.
